How do I build my own assessment?

Shape the questions, see each one the way an employee meets it, and try the whole run before anyone answers.

Only a company admin can shape the questions. A manager can read results but cannot open Rounds or the questions under it.

You cannot add a new assessment yourself. Your company comes with the assessments Velory wrote, and adding another one is something we do for you. Ask your Velory contact. What you shape yourself is the questions inside the one you have.

You shape them on the round’s Questions page: reword any of them in your own words, reorder them, and add as many of your own as you need. Nothing reaches your people until you send the round, and you can see the whole thing first.

In this guide:

  • Step 1: Open your questions
  • Step 2: Shape the questions
  • Step 3: Check who it goes to
  • Step 4: Preview it
  • Step 5: Save it

Step 1: Open your questions

  1. Open Rounds on the rail, then Questions on the round you are running. The crumb at the top reads Rounds, the round’s number, then Questions. A line under it says which round this is and whether its wording can still change.
  2. On the left is every question, in the order they are asked. Every row shows the same four things: a drag handle, its number, the question, and what it checks. Pick a row and it opens in the panel on the right, with a coloured edge down the left of the row you picked. The address in your browser names the question you have open, so you can send a colleague a link straight to one of them.
  3. The panel has one switch with two states. See it shows the card an employee meets. Edit it shows what you may change. It opens on See it every time you pick a new question.
  4. Your company has its own copy of each assessment Velory wrote. When you edit your copy, only yours changes. Nobody else’s assessment moves. See assessment types, and keeping them up to date.

Step 2: Shape the questions

On the round’s Questions page you can:

  1. Reorder questions with the handle at the start of a row.
  2. Reword a question, in the panel on the right, under Edit it. Two lines are yours to write: Question and Line under it. Press Save when you are done. Edits are not kept until you do.
  3. Reset question to Flow’s wording puts our words back, for those same two lines.
  4. Add your own questions with + Add a question, on the Optional divider in the middle of the list, in these formats:
    • One tap: yes or no
    • A short scale
    • Pick one
    • Pick any
    • A short written answer
    • Share out a total (split a budget across rows)

The questions Velory wrote are always asked, and the answers are ours to write. There is no switch to turn one off: every figure on your results is built from the levels behind those answers, so a check missing one of them would not measure the same thing. Under Edit it the sample answers are shown beside their levels and cannot be typed in. As seen by on See it, and the tabs beside Answers, sample for on Edit it, show the same question as three different jobs would meet it — Flow writes those answers from each person’s job title.

Your own questions are removed, never switched off. Open one and Edit it gives you three things: Question, Line under it and Answered with, which is how people answer it. Remove this question is at the bottom left. It drops the row.

On a survey you write from scratch, you can describe an outcome in a sentence or two and have AI draft the questions for you. Then edit them.

On Know Your AI the list has two sections. Required for Article 4 comes first, and nothing in it can be removed. It holds the seven questions Velory wrote plus one more: “Have you had any training on using AI at work?”. Article 4 of the EU AI Act makes your company responsible for the AI literacy of the people using AI in its name, and no other question in the check records training. Every company asks it in the same words, so there is nothing to change under Edit it.

Optional comes second. It holds the questions written from your policy and any you add yourself, and the number on its divider counts only those. You get the policy questions by saving your policy: the one button on Policy stores the list and writes a question for each rule you ticked. There is no button for it on this page. See drafting questions from your policies.

This page stays shut until your policy is saved. Open it first and it says so, with a button back to Policy.

Untick a rule on Policy and its question is switched off. It is not listed here, and a line where it would be says how many there are. Tick the rule again and it comes back as you left it.

The heading estimates how long the assessment takes. The estimate comes from the list, so it moves when you add a question or remove one.

Your edits are saved as you work, and Save at the top of the page saves them now. Nobody outside your admins can see them until the round goes out. The wording that goes out is whatever is saved when you press Send.

Step 3: Check who it goes to

It goes to everyone on your roster who still needs to finish it. There is no picker to set that yourself: add and remove people on People, and that is who the assessment reaches. See sending an assessment.

If your check has been aimed at particular teams for you, ask your Velory contact to change it. Re-aiming it changes who takes it next. It never changes which past answers count.

Step 4: Preview it

Do this before you send the round.

  1. See it, in the panel, shows one question as an employee meets it. Use As seen by to read it as a different job.
  2. Try it as an employee, at the top of the page, runs your whole draft end to end in a new tab, exactly as an employee takes it. A ribbon reads “Preview. Nothing here is saved or counted.” Throwaway answers, nothing kept.

A manager gets neither.

Step 5: Save it

  1. Press Save, at the top of the page. The button reads Saving…, then Saved.
  2. Go to Rounds and press Send when the wording is how you want it. The round goes out with what you saved.

After a round has gone out

A sent round is read-only. The questions are the ones people are answering, so nothing on the page can change them: there is no Save, no Edit it, no handles to reorder with, and no + Add a question. A pill at the top reads “Sent 7 Sep · read-only”. See it still shows every card the way an employee meets it.

To ask something different, start the next round on Rounds and edit its questions. See assessment types, and keeping them up to date.
